SBJ ALL IN: Brandon Thompson

Peter Taylor

Brandon Thompson

Vice President, Diversity and Inclusion, NASCAR

Thompson’s role was newly created when he took it on in 2020, signifying how NASCAR was intensifying its efforts to have a more diverse fan base and workforce. He has helped form employee resource groups and struck alliances with external groups for Black, Hispanic/Latinx, Asian American/Pacific Islander and LGBTQ+ communities. For example, NASCAR has done work in the esports space with historically Black colleges and universities and partnered with the Women’s Sports Foundation, The Trevor Project and Latino civil rights group UnidosUS. Thompson also oversees long-standing diversity initiatives including the NASCAR Diversity Internship Program, the same program that provided the Clark Atlanta University graduate his start in NASCAR in 2003.
