Sonja Stills

Commissioner, Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference

Stills is in her first year as commissioner of the MEAC, but her impact on gender and ethnic diversity goes back long before she was named to the top position as the first Black woman to serve as commissioner at a Division I conference of historically Black colleges and universities. Stills joined the conference in 2002 and has advocated for women in the collegiate ranks through managing the Women in Athletics Professional Development Workshop for the past decade. The program assists women with professional development and networking. Prior to becoming commissioner, Stills, who previously was the league’s COO, collaborated with senior woman administrators across the conference to create its first gender equity plan.
