Founder and Director, The Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport at the University of Central Florida

Described as “the racial conscience of sports,” Lapchick is internationally recognized for his work as a human rights advocate and pioneer for racial equality. In 2002, he launched TIDES, known for its Racial and Gender Report Card for the NBA, NFL, MLB, MLS, WNBA and college athletics. Lapchick, who also founded the National Consortium for Academics and Sport in 1985 (it was renamed the Institute for Sport and Social Justice in 2018), consults with companies to manage diversity and connect with their communities through youth service programs. ISSJ provides diversity management training to sports organizations, including college athletic departments and professional leagues and teams.
