Magic Gaming, the NBA2K League affiliate of the Orlando Magic, is teaming up with Florida Blue (its official health insurance provider) to help get high schoolers and college students into esports along with teaching them about health. The Magic Gaming Esports Academy is for Orlanda-area schools, and it’s also working with the Orange County Public Schools system. It's an example of how esports affiliates can bring increased value to sponsorships and other deals for traditional sports teams.
The program includes monthly seminars with esports pros. But the idea here is also to expose Academy students to potential tech careers in and outside gaming. This isn’t the first time that Magic Gaming has dipped into esports advocacy, as it’s worked with Boys & Girls clubs and made visits to AdventHealth hospitals.
This is the most recent activation as part of Florida Blue becoming the official health insurance provider of the Orlando Magic and other Magic-affiliated properties, like Magic Gaming, the Orlando Solar Bears of ECHL hockey, and the Lakeland Magic of the NBA G League.
