Tencent will host Global Esports Summit in Hangzhou

By Hongyu Chen

Tencent Esports announced its plans Tuesday for the Tencent Global Esports Summit, which will take place in the Hangzhou International Expo Center in Zhejiang, China, from July 26-27. Tencent said the summit will also be in conjunction with Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF) and the China Esports Working Council.

First held in 2017, the Tencent Global Esports Summit has become China’s biggest annual esports conference due to the publishing conglomerate’s leading position in the Chinese market. Sports Business Journal has been reporting on the latest news from the summit for four years. This year’s theme is “Burst in Asia,” and Hangzhou is the ideal location, as it’s the host of the 19th Asia Games (even if this is postponed due to the coronavirus), the first to showcase esports as a medal sport in an Olympic-affiliated event.

Tencent also said that each of its esports segments — League of Legends, Honor of Kings, and CrossFire, among others — will also unveil its esports plan on July 26. At the 2020’s Summit, Tencent Holdings COO Mark Ren highlighted four key trends for the future of esports globalization.
