ASU confirms Coyotes can paint logo on arena ice

Arizona State Univ. confirmed that both the Coyotes and ASU logos will "be painted on the multipurpose arena's ice," according to Jose Romero of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. Many critics and naysayers "had a field day" Tuesday when a report was published saying that the Coyotes would "not be allowed to modify the look of the ice surface at their soon-to-be home, including the ... logo for the Sun Devil hockey team, on game broadcasts." However, the school said that the Coyotes and ASU logos will "be on center ice," but the Coyotes are "prohibited from including any of their other normal in-ice branding as was seen at Gila River Arena, their former home." They also are "prevented from digitally covering up the ASU logo on their broadcasts." Construction continues on the new on-campus arena, including "modifications the Coyotes have agreed to pay for that include NHL-compliant locker rooms and other team facilities." The 5,000-seat arena is "expected to be completed in October with the modifications in December of this year" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 5/19).
