Franchise Notes

On Long Island, Neil Best writes Islanders President & GM Lou Lamoriello has "put himself squarely in the center of the drama to come for the Islanders" in '22-23 by hiring Lane Lambert as coach. As a former associate of previous Islanders coach Barry Trotz, Lambert is a "voice that players have been listening to for four years." The coming Islanders season feels "a lot like a historical pivot point" for Lamoriello and many of his players. If things "go sideways next winter and spring," Lamoriello and his players "figure to take more of the heat for it than Lambert will" (NEWSDAY, 5/17).

GOIN' GLOBAL: In Milwaukee, Margaret Naczek wrote the Bucks' "international growth, particularly on social media" is an "area of excitement" for the team. Team President Peter Feigin believes that growth will "be capitalized with the recent news" that the team will play two preseason games in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates next season. Feigin said, "We are always excited to be one of the poster children for the NBA, which we think is the global lead platform in the world. For us to be able to have another global game and opportunity helps our brands. It helps our business. It expands our reach in a way that five years ago we couldn’t have even imagined" (, 5/17).
