SBJ Atlas Phoenix market report: Facility sponsors in focus

The Suns on Sunday were eliminated from the playoffs but hosted the team’s first Game 7 since the '06 NBA conference semifinals, giving great exposure for Footprint, which came on as naming-rights sponsor for the downtown Phoenix arena during the NBA Finals last season. The venue also is home to the WNBA’s Mercury, but in that capacity will only see one home game on ABC or ESPN this season. The Mercury also remain without popular star Brittney Griner, who has been detained in Russia since March 5. Griner continues to have endorsements with Nike, Oura, Popeyes and SixStar Nutrition. Meanwhile, the D-Backs are looking for a major renovation to the downtown Chase Field to make it more intimate, or will seek a new ballpark on a different site. Chase is signed on through ’28 to entitle the ballpark, which just added an on-site Caesars Sportsbook.

SUBURBAN SEARCH: Out in the Phoenix suburbs, the Coyotes continue to look for a new permanent home. The team played its final season at Gila River Arena in Glendale, home since '03, as that arena is set to undergo a two-year, $40-50M renovation as it pivots toward live entertainment and music events. The Coyotes will move southwest to Tempe and into Arizona State’s soon-to-be-completed multipurpose arena for the next three years. The club signed with Oak View Group for sponsorship sales while it negotiates with the Tempe City Council on a proposed new venue there.
