Panthers home game on same date as Presidents Cup finale

The NFL Panthers’ home dates "include a game at Bank of America Stadium" on Sep. 25 against the Saints, the "same day as the final round of competition" for the Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow Club, according to Erik Spanberg of the CHARLOTTE BUSINESS JOURNAL. Quail Hollow President Johnny Harris said, “We tried everything we could to work with them, unfortunately it didn’t seem to work for them.” But Harris also said that the head-to-head events are "unlikely to impact attendance at either venue." Capacity at Bank of America is 75,000, while for the Presidents Cup, it "will be 40,000 daily." The venues are "12 miles apart." This is not the only instance of a Panthers’ home game "being played with another major event in town" this season. On Oct. 9, Charlotte Motor Speedway’s Fall NASCAR race -- a playoff event -- "will be run in Concord while the Panthers will face the 49ers" at 4:05pm ET. Collisions between the Panthers and NASCAR "are rare," with the team playing home games on two other occasions in conflict with the fall NASCAR race: in ’00 and ’21. Last year neither side “seemed to suffer” (, 5/13).
