Former gymnast AMELIA CLINE has filed a proposed class-action lawsuit against Gymnastics Canada and six provincial gymnastics federations, alleging the organizations “created an environment where abuse could occur" and "failed to take the proper steps to protect young athletes.” The claim was filed yesterday in the Supreme Court of British Columbia by Cline, who asked the court to “certify her claim as a class action representing Canadian gymnasts who claim they were sexually, physically and/or psychologically abused" since ‘78. She also has asked the court to “award unspecified damages for past and future health care services,” as well as “punitive and aggravated damages.” Other defendants include provincial gymnastics federations in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan (, 5/11).

NAMES: NFL writer JARRETT BELL has won the Bill Nunn Jr. Award, which is awarded yearly by the Professional Football Writers of America in recognition of “long and distinguished career contributions to professional football reporting.” The award, which originated in ‘69, was renamed in ‘21 in tribute to Nunn, a longtime writer and editor at the Pittsburgh Courier. Bell has covered pro football since ’81 and he has been with USA TODAY Sports since ’93 (USA TODAY, 5/12)....The NBA Kings have launched an initiative to “promote and support” the Hope for Ukraine Fund, a joint fundraising venture led by Kings C ALEX LEN, Raptors F SVI MYKHAILIUK and the Len-D A Hand Foundation. In addition to providing financial support, the Kings announced they will use their social media channels and billboards across the Sacramento region to “raise awareness and encourage fans to contribute” (SACRAMENTO BEE, 5/12)....Nashville Superspeedway President ERIK MOSES was elected yesterday to the Cumberland Univ. Board of Trustees. He "will begin serving on the board" in June ‘22 (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 5/12).
