Shawna Ryan leads grassroots programming for the Gatorade brand, which includes oversight of key brand partnerships as well as all planning and strategy for grassroots events.
A 20 year PepsiCo veteran, Ryan oversees the programming that delivers hydration and sports fuel to millions of athletes annually. Her team reaches this critical mass of athletes through partnerships and long-standing relationships. She also leads strategy and development of the 37 year old Gatorade High School Player of the Year program. One of the longest high school sports awards in existence, the Player of the Year program celebrates more than 600 athletes across twelve sports each year based on achievements in athletics, academics and character.
Additionally, under Ryan’s leadership Gatorade launched a cause component to the Player of the Year program in 2016 called Play it Forward. The program empowers athletes to increase access to sports for youth in their local community by providing a grant to each Player of the Year winner to pass along to a local sports program. In its first five years, the program has distributed over $3.2MM to more than 1,300 local organizations.
Prior to PepsiCo, Ryan managed large-scale consumer promotions for clients like McDonald’s, Kraft Foods, Mobil Oil, Sprint and MGM. A graduate of, and former varsity softball player at, Northwestern University, she lives on the North side of Chicago with her husband and 3 boys. She continues to participate in intramural sports and enjoys coaching her sons’ baseball teams.
